Who knew that there have already been 20 films in the Pokemon franchise? Movie number 21 will be released soon and it will be a live-action adaptation starring Ryan Reynolds as the popular Pikachu.

The film will be called Detective Pikachu and will see the Pokemon helping a young boy find his missing father. Detective Pikachu is originally a video game where a talking Pikachu partners with a boy to solve cases revolving other Pokemon.

Joining Reynolds in the film are Justice Smith and Kathryn Newton. Smith will play the young boy, while Newton will play a journalist who will help Pikachu and Smith.

Back when it was first announced that a live-action adaptation of Detective Pikachu is in the works, fans suggested that Danny DeVito should play the titular role. A reporter asked the actor about the possibility of him playing Pikachu, but he said no, before asking “What the F is Pokemon?”

Of course, Reynolds is perfect for the role. His comedic timing (in both his social media and role in Deadpool) is impeccable and he has done voiceovers for animated films in the past, including Family Guy and The Croods.

Detective Pikachu will start filming in London next month.
