The Philippine National Police (PNP) just released a report that shows the Top 15 Chartered Cities Nationwide Index Crimes, which they posted on their Facebook Page.
Theย list rankedย the chartered citiesย with data from calendar yearย 2010ย toย 2015.ย Basically, a chartered city is a city governed by their own specific municipal charters,ย which specifies their administrative structure and powers.
On the report, Davao City appeared to have the highest recorded murder incidents, a whopping 1,032. Quezon City followed at 961.
In the overall ranking of the 15 chartered cities, Davao City was fourth. Quezon City took the top spot. Here’s the list below from the PNP.
The report also showedย thatย Davao City ranked second on the list of chartered cities nationwide rape cases with 843 recorded incidents. Quezon City still tookย the top spot at 1,122.
Now, many will ask why there’s emphasis on Davao City. The relevance points towards Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s statement of resolving the countryโs crime (and illegal drug situation) in three month’s time.
If he stands by it, why is it thatย numbers tell otherwise?
We are not pro or anti any political figure here. We are just trying to present numbers and facts to help people make wise decisions.
However, it’s sad and scary that more often than not, opinions remain as they are despite having presented with facts. Still, we promote mutual respect and we believe that everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
This data, you can take it with a grain of salt or take it as absolute truth. Whatever your decision may be, just make sure thatย it’s an informed one and not simply to bandwagon.
Think before you vote.
We all hope for a better future for the Philippines.

Dear wheninmanila,
I agree with most of the comments.
Please revise graphics to compare these numbers as against the city’s population. Best if you can do a year-by-year table also.
The report is definitely misleading. The numbers alone don’t paint the whole picture. Population and land area weren’t considered, and the effectivity of the police force as well (actual number of crimes vs total police blotters filed). Consider the figures below:
Davao City – 2444 sq.km (1.449m pax)
Quezon City – 166.2 sq.km (3.085m pax)
Manila – 38.55 sq.km (1.652m pax)
Cebu City – 315 sq.km (2.55m pax)
Davao then has only 1 murder incident per 2sq.km area, compare that to QC = 5.8 murders / sq.km, Manila = 18.5murders / sq.km, Cebu = 2.55.

[Yet again, why Filipinos need better #Math skills…]
My friends in Davao are feeling defensive, and rightfully so. Sharing what Aileen Caliwanagan Cabrera wrote –
“Tired of seeing our peaceful Davao City being mislabeled. My husband and I made an analysis. Just look at the total land area. Davao has 2,444 square kilometers, QC has 142 and Manila has 25. Ilang QC at Manila ang kasha sa Davao. By just taking a look and not compute it chances of being a victim of any crimes in Davao is smaller than the two leading cities in the chart. Let’s take a look at the highlighted portion – murder. In Davao you get .42 murders per square kilometers (wala pa isang tao); Sa QC 7 ang pinapatay per sq. km at 28 ang pinapatay sa Manila per sq. km.. Compute nyo iba pang reported crimes, chances are the likelihood of being killed, robbed, raped, etc. is smaller than Davao. Na experience ko na at ng pamilya ko ang manakawan sa house, pasukin kahit we are inside the house, nadukutan, ma hold-up. Both in Manila, QC at Las Pinas. Hindi naman nare-report. I tried once magreport ng pasukin ang bahay namin sa Pilar ang sagot ng pulis ma’am walang duty, gusto nyo bigyan nyo kami ng pamasahe punta kami ng main office. Nakakapanlumo, asawa ko dahil sobrang stress kahit natutukan na non sa bus di na nagreport inisip nya na lang gusto nya umuwi sa family nya kasi buhay pa sha. Those are the facts. Dito ang police visibility matindi and yes malaki respeto ko sa pulis dito. Tapat sila, I know one kasi neighbor ko.”
Paid? Report by the PNP… paid? What is this SWS, Pulse Asia or Numbeo survey? Go figure that.
