Pia Wurtzbach could not let herself stay silent amid all the bashing and criticism from netizens after she was named “Woman of the Year” by Dubai-based luxury magazine Xpedition.

“Thank you so much @xpeditionmagazine @josh_yugen @yugenpr for the invitation and the award. 15 awards were given out tonight and I’m so grateful to receive one of them. Thank you for recognizing my efforts,” she began.

“I noticed a few bashers questioning why I was given this award, also saying that I don’t deserve it.. I usually don’t like answering them but I have to admit, nahuhurt ako pag sinasabing ‘wala ka namang ginawa’ (I get hurt when I am told that ‘you haven’t done anything’). So let me explain.”

In the comments, Pia enumerated the many things she’s done this year, such as organizing her very first fundraiser, auctioning off her Miss Universe gowns for charity, becoming an ambassador for WWF Philippines, helping raise funds for COVID-19 test kits through Angel Locsin and Anne Curtis’s Shop & Share project, and doing free talks with UNAIDS, and so much more.

She shared that although she doesn’t like having to explain herself, she felt the need to especially when people accuse her of not doing philanthropic work or when they just notice her photos with Jeremy Jauncey, her boyfriend.

“This year has been tough for me too. I’ve been trying to keep my head up and balance work and businesses, my personal life and even family issues. I’ve been through some really dark times this year (even Jeremy has seen it) but somehow I’ve been able to fight through it and I haven’t forgotten about the people who believe in me,” she said.

She added that she doesn’t mind if people don’t like her as long as there are many others who continue to believe and trust her.

“To my bashers who work so hard to bring me down, okay lang sakin kung ayaw nyo sakin or iba kasi ang bet nyo (it’s okay with me if you don’t like me or that you are rooting for someone else). This month marks 5 years since I won Miss Universe but there are people [and] organizations who still believe and trust in me and that’s all that matters. Ok na ok na ko dun (I am okay with that),” she ended.
