Peter Dinklage Wants You To Stop Buying Huskies Just Because They Look Like Direwolves

Listen, guys, we get it: Game of Thrones is an awesome show. Even Peter Dinklage gets it. Although the actor is usually engaging in witty rapid-fire quotes and humorous banter on the show as Tyrion Lannister, Peter turned serious as he addressed an issue he feels strongly about.

Peter Dinklage Avengers Infinity War

Peter Dinklage is huge animal lover and humanitarian.
And since Game of Thrones first premiered in 2011, there has been a massive spike in the sale — and subsequent abandonment — of Huskies. The reason? Because they bear a really close resemblance to direwolves, the Stark pets on the show.

Due to the show’s massive appeal, fans have been buying Huskies on a whim, only to leave them abandoned in homes because they only realize later “how much work and commitment are required to care for them”.

Peter said in a statement:

“Please, to all of Game of Thrones‘ many wonderful fans, we understand that due to the direwolves’ huge popularity, many folks are going out and buying huskies. Not only does this hurt all the deserving homeless dogs waiting for a chance at a good home in shelters, but shelters are also reporting that many of these huskies are being abandoned—as often happens when dogs are bought on impulse, without understanding their needs. Please, please, if you’re going to bring a dog into your family, make sure that you’re prepared for such a tremendous responsibility and remember to always, ALWAYS, adopt from a shelter.”

Getting a pet is never an impulse decision, guys.
