Mayor Vico Sotto supports bike to work: ‘Kahit pinapawisan sila ng konti inaamoy ko sila mabango pa naman’

As the general community quarantine (GCQ) is implemented today, June 1, in the National Capital Region (NCR), Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto encouraged people to try biking to work since most modes of public transportation will still be unavailable in the next two weeks.

Additionally, the young city boss said that they are recommending the use of bicycles to prevent traffic congestion in the city, he said in a Facebook Live on Sunday.

“We’re promoting bicycle riding and other alternative modes of transportation dahil alam po nating kung gaano katrapik dito sa Pasig. Alam po natin na 90% ng trapik na yan ay galing sa private cars,” the young mayor said.

He even reasoned out that the use of bicycles is possible even in a warm country like the Philippines.

Pasig City has already begun putting more bike lanes and sidewalk extensions since April when biking was announced as an essential form of transportation.
