‘Parasite’ Director Bong Joon-ho Left in Awe of Dennis Trillo in ‘On the Job: The Missing 8’

“Parasite” director Bong Joon-Ho had nothing but praises for Filipino actor Dennis Trillo for his performance in the film “On The Job: The Missing 8” which was screened at the 78th Venice International Film Festival in Italy that was held from September 1 to 11, 2021.

Bong Joon-Ho, who made waves across the globe for making history in the 2020 Academy Awards for winning the highly-coveted Best Picture prize, presided over the competition jury of the festival. Speaking to Dennis at the theater, Bong said, “We all loved you. You were so great!”

Dennis also managed to have the multi-awarded director sign his copy of the “Parasite” graphic novel, which contained the film’s storyboards and more.

“Labyu tito Bong! Thank you for signing my book,” he gushed in the caption of his photo with him.

Dennis starred in the sequel of Erik Matti’s acclaimed 2013 movie “On The Job” where he played the role of Roman Rubio, a prisoner who fell into the gun-for-hire business. John Arcilla was also in the movie as journalist Sisoy Salas who looks into the disappearances of his colleagues.

John successfully bagged the Best Actor award in the prestigious film festival though he was unable to attend the ceremony in person. Director Erik received his award in his stead while John’s acceptance speech was played on the big screen.

He now joins the rank of A-list international actors Willem Dafoe, Joaquin Phoenix, Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, and more, who are all winners of the coveted Volpi Cup award in the past years. He is also the first Filipino to receive the award.

Inspired by true events, “On The Job: The Missing 8” centers around crime syndicates that temporarily release contracted prison inmates to carry out political assassinations for those in power, except that the crime syndicates are run by politicians. It received a 5-minute standing ovation at the festival.
