Palawan records its first case of COVID-19 in the province

Puerto Princesa City Mayor Lucilo Bayron confirms its first case of COVID-19 in the province. The patient is a 26-year-old Australian male with travel history from Kuala Lumpur. He is also reported to have visited Metro Manila before visiting the province.

The case was confirmed last Friday, March 19. However, the patient has been discharged and was allowed to go back to Australia last March 17. Reports also say that he arrived in Manila last March 5 and arrived in Palawan last March 7.

In a press release posted on Facebook, Provincial Health Officer Dra. Mary Ann Navarro says that they should not panic despite this news.  She also tells people that it’s best to stay at home and to self-quarantine to control the spread of the virus.

As of writing, the virus has infected 380 people in the country with 25 reported fatalities and 15 recoveries. President Duterte has also put the Philippines under a State of Calamity because of the virus spread.
