Our Top 11 Looks From the 2018 Met Gala (Including Some Filipino Faves!)

Each year, the fashion and entertainment industries gather to celebrate the Met Gala, a fundraising party for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City. The gala follows the theme of the exhibition, which has recently featured tributes to Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons, technology, China, and punk. The attendees, ranging from figures in showbiz, politics, royalty, business, and fashion come in their best interpretations of the theme.

This year’s theme is Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, featuring clothing inspired by the church. Surprisingly, the Vatican approved the exhibit, even lending 50 garments and accessories for the exhibit.

Of course, the Met Gala being one of the most awaited events in pop culture, many waited to see what their favorite stars would wear. Here are some of our favorites, including two Filipinos who attended the Gala  😉

11. Sza in Versace

Sza

Sza looked both edgy and cute in her pink Versace gown. The study in contrasts also applied to the studded top (and matching boots!) and her feminine skirt. We’re also digging the gold headpiece that makes her look like she descended from the sky!

10. Zendaya in Versace

Zendaya

The Spider-Man: Homecoming and The Greatest Showman actress looked to history for inspiration for her outfit, and channeled her inner Joan of Arc in this beautiful chainmail gown from Versace. To complete her look, Zendaya also copied the French heroine’s bob.

9. Lily Collins in Givenchy

Lily Collins in Givenchy

Lily Collins took a clean and minimalist route for her Met Gala look but the impact is still there. Her dress matched her headpiece and what we really love is her makeup: a gothic look with purple lips and a teardrop, which her makeup artist said was inspired by stigmatas and the tears of virgins.

8. Troye Sivan in Valentino and Ariana Grande in Vera Wang

Troye Sivan

The two young singers looked amazing in their Met Gala outfits. Sivan wore an all-red ensemble (and mesh top) from Valentino, and we’re not quite sure what his reference was, but we’re thinking cute devil? Ariana Grande took Michelangelo’s painting of the Sistine Chapel ceiling and added it to her voluminous gown, but she looks ethereal as always.

7. Kate Bosworth in Oscar dela Renta

Kate Bosworth

Kate Bosworth looked completely angelic in her golden Oscar dela Renta gown, complete with a massive train and a tiny little veil. Her facial expression completed her beautiful look.

6. Chadwick Boseman in Versace

Chadwick Boseman

The King of Wakanda looked like royalty in his cream Versace suit, draped by an elegant cape to match. The cape is laden with religious crosses, but just enough for it to not look too over-the-top. Whatever Edna Mode in The Incredibles may say about capes, King T’challa rocked it.

5. Alessandro Michele, Lana del Rey, and Jared Leto in Gucci

Alessandro Michele Lana Del Rey Jared Leto

This trio arrived in head-to-toe Gucci and it’s no surprise considering Alessandro Michele is the creative director of the Italian brand. Both Michele and Leto looked like Jesus with their floral brocade and their simple headgear. Lana del Rey, on the other hand, wore something a little simpler to allow her sacred heart chest plate and her gorgeous headpiece to shine. A lot of people are already calling this photo the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, and we totally get it.

4. Rihanna in Maison MargielaRihanna

The queen of the Met Gala arrived in Papal style and as always, did not disappoint. Her Margiela dress came with a stunning coat and hat bejeweled to match the grandeur of typical Catholic attire. She has always done her homework for the Met Gala (check out her yellow Guo Pei gown in 2015 and the avant-garde Comme des Garçons dress in 2017) and we’re already looking forward to what she’ll wear next year.

3. Boy Abunda

Boy Abunda took a monastic approach to the Met Gala theme and arrived in an all-black attire. Only Abunda could pull of that look and you can see how much the photographers like his minimalist outfit.

2. Jolegend Slaydangal

Jolegend Slaydangal

Jolegend Slaydangal was in full Catholic regalia at the Met Gala with a beaded gold gown, a luxurious train, and a sun-like headpiece to go with her shock of black hair. She looked every bit the princess in her look and Claudine Barretto even approves (from the sideline).

1. Beyonce as the Holy Ghost

As always, Beyonce can do no wrong and she looked amazing as the Holy Ghost.
