Orangutan now washes hands after seeing caretakers doing it often

An orangutan named Sandra who resides at the Center for Great Apes in Florida allegedly started washing her hands after observing that her caretakers have been doing it frequently.

“Tubs of water are a favorite enrichment item” and “Sandra decided to mimic them [caretakers] and clean her hands,” according to the video.

Born on February 14, 1986, at the Rostock Zoologischer Garten in Germany, Sandra arrived at the Center for Great Apes in November 2019 and is now a permanent resident of the sanctuary.
