One Day Without Shoes in Manila

One Day Without Shoes is an awareness campaign by TOMS Philippines to spark conversation – and therefore action – between people on the plight of the millions of children around the world who go through every single day shoe-less. When in Manila and other parts of the country, this is painfully obvious in our less fortunate areas. In line with their One for One program, where every pair of shoes bought gets a needy child a pair as well, One Day Without Shoes was an eye-opener on how much we can affect the lives of those less fortunate than ourselves.

Hosted by DJs Tracy and Vince (Vince also happens to be WhenInManila.com’s Editor-in-Chief!), One Day Without Shoes saw dozens and dozens of Manila residents go barefoot in the middle of Greenbelt 3, Makati.

One Day Without Shoes featured information walls where TOMS Philippines outlined the significance of the One for One program – complete with facts, figures, and the importance of the mission. TOMS has been giving shoes to the children in the less fortunate communities in our country, with One Day Without Shoes highlighting just how much we can do for these kids.

A quick tour around Greenbelt 3 – barefooted – allowed the guests and participants to the One Day Without Shoes in Manila to experience what many children all around the world live with every single day. There were dirt, pebbly, and stone surfaces to walk on too, just for everyone to quite literally put themselves in the position of these children. It was heart-warming to see people express support for One Day Without Shoes on the ‘freedom wall’ as well.
