“On the Job: The Missing 8” Wins Best Film at 38th PMPC Star Awards for Movies

The 38th Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Movies hailed Erik Matti’s “On the Job: The Missing 8” as Best Film! This is among the Filipino action film’s six wins at the annual event held at The Manila Hotel on Sunday night.

OTJ 2 also bagged awards for Best Sound Design (Corinne de San Jose), Best Screenplay (Michiko Yamamoto), Best Supporting Movie Actress of the Year (Lotlot de Leon), Best Ensemble Acting, and of course, Best Director (Erik Matti).

Despite missing the awards night, the director expressed his gratitude to the country’s award-giving body through an Instagram post. He wrote, “Thank you so much, PMPC, for the recognition. How I wish I was there to witness all the awards you’ve given our film.”

Matti also mentioned his team and congratulated them, saying, “To the cast and crew who worked so hard for this film, congratulations! Our film is still being recognized year in, year out.”

Starring John Arcilla, Joel Torre, Piolo Pascual, Dennis Trillo, Gerald Anderson, Joey Marquez, Christopher De Leon, and Andrea Brillantes, the “On The Job” sequel was released in 2021. Its prequel follows the story of inmates hired by politicians to conduct hits, while “The Missing 8” follows the same theme from the perspective of a journalist.

Arcilla, who plays the lead role of Sisoy Salas, bested 92 films from all over the world for the Coppa Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the Venice International Film Festival last year, becoming the first Southeast Asian artist to win the award.

OTJ 2 was also nominated in the Best TV Movie/Mini-series category at the 50th International Emmy Awards, and the Philippines’ entry to the 95th Academy Awards (Oscars) under the Best International Feature Film category.
