Olivia Rodrigo Fell in Love With the Philippines—and She’s Planning Her Next Trip Back

Filipino-American pop star Olivia Rodrigo says she’s looking forward to returning to the Philippines, and next time, she hopes to explore more of the country’s islands.

In an interview with Elle magazine, the “drivers license” singer reflected on her first-ever visit to the Philippines in October of last year, calling it a special trip that left a lasting impression.

“It was my first time in the Philippines and also my biggest venue ever,” Olivia said. “Thank you to everyone in Manila for welcoming me so generously and making me feel so loved.”

Her Manila concert was notable not just for the performance but also for its purpose—all proceeds went to Jhpiego to support girls’ and women’s healthcare.

Jhpiego is a global nonprofit organization affiliated with Johns Hopkins University that works to improve healthcare for women and families, focusing on maternal and reproductive health, and preventing diseases like HIV and cervical cancer in low-resource communities.

All tickets were priced at an accessible ₱1,500. During the show, Olivia proudly wore a sash that read Miss So Filipina.”

The Grammy-winning artist also opened up about her Filipino roots.

“I wasn’t born there, and I don’t speak Tagalog very well,” she shared. “I kind of had a chip on my shoulder like, ‘Oh gosh, I hope they accept me and see me as a Filipino and a source of pride.’”

That warm welcome from Filipino fans clearly meant a lot. “I love the Philippines so much and I can’t wait to go back,” Olivia said. “Next time, I really want to go to some of the islands, swim in the beautiful oceans, and see all the beaches. That’s on the agenda.”

While there’s no confirmed date yet for her return, it seems safe to say that the Philippines is high on Olivia Rodrigo’s travel list—and fans will be ready to welcome her back when she does.
