Filipina Singer Breaks Records as New Song Becomes No. 1 in World Music Charts

Filipino-American singer Olivia Rodrigo, known for her roles as Paige Olvera on the Disney Channel series Bizaardvark and as Nini Salazar-Roberts on the Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, is now a globally recognized singer after her newest single topped world music charts within days of its release.

Her song, “Driver’s License,” became an instant hit and was number one in the US iTunes Top 100 chart, Apple Music’s Top 100 Global Chart, and Spotify’s Global Top 100 chart. It also broke the record for the biggest single-day streamed song on US Spotify, garnering 100 Million streams in just 10 days.

As of writing, the music video now has over 45 Million views since its premiere on January 8, 2021.

“Uhhhhhh so driver’s license is the number one song in the world [right now],” she wrote in an Instagram post after learning of the news. “Never in my wildest dreams did I expect this. Thank [you] guys so much for listening. I can’t believe this is real life.”
