As someone with an honest-to-goodness obsession with breads, cakes, and pastries, it doesn’t take much to impress my taste buds. However, I’m not the type to seek the same treat again and again unless it truly blew me away—and that’s exactly what local Instagram bakeshop Oh Em Gie did.
Oh Em Gie, just like many, opened shop during the quarantine to share their delicious passion project to Filipinos across the Metro. But they stand out among similar businesses because of the sole product they offer: the Muffin Flight.
It’s perfect, how they explain their Muffin Flight: “It’s an out of the box idea but inside just one box.” You’ll roll your eyes at my pun but I couldn’t help saying “OMG!” upon seeing all six unique flavors that you won’t usually find anywhere else.
There’s the Piña Colada, which is a refreshing take on the alcoholic drink featuring zesty pineapple bits and toasted coconut, and the Peaches and Cinnamon, a delightfully sweet and tangy muffin laced with nutmeg and cinnamon spices.
Then, there are the common crowd favorites: S’mores, Peanut Butter and Choco, and Cookies and Cream.
Lastly, there’s one that sticks out like, well, a rose—the creamy White Chocolate muffin topped with edible dried Rose petals. You’d think that the floral taste will overpower the treat but it really doesn’t; and it’s surprisingly become one of my favorites out of the six!
I’m not exaggerating when I say that you can taste the love and joy in each of Oh Em Gie’s muffins. After all, it was created by mother-and-daughter tandem Gie (whom the brand was named after) and Reema from their humble home kitchen in Quezon City.
To them, they find motivation in envisioning how people are going to indulge in their products. “It’s not just about eating good food for us, it’s also about the experience of eating delicious dishes. Our Muffin Flight for example is an adventure for your palate because it presents you with six exciting flavors; so you walk through six delightful textures and tastes. It’s really good for sharing, in a way encouraging bonding over food with friends and family.”
Oh Em Gie’s Muffin Flight is one ride I’ll happily take again and again. Trust me, you will too.
