Now on its fifth year, the UP Alliance of Chemical Engineering Students (UP AChES) is hosting its annual inter-high school event, The National Science and Youth Congress (NSYC), for another series of thought-provoking and imaginative contests for today’s young and inventive minds. Whether you’re a curious student or a budding pioneer, checking out some of the events in this science-focused exhibition might kick your momentum to bring about positive change into the world and gain a new perspective on the country’s environmental climate.

The event is geared towards an upbeat, constructive approach to science-based issues that emanate in the country today. Main events include a quiz contest “Mental Smackdown,” a symposium “Syntegrate,” and a science fair “Youth Greenovation.” This year’s illustrious event will be focusing on green nanotechnology as a vehicle for sustainability, rightfully bearing the theme “Green Nanotechnology: Leading the Youth towards a Sustainable Future.”

The quiz contest “Mental Smackdown” aims to host a healthy, competitive setting to challenge the attendee’s knowledge on the different fields of sciences including mathematics, biology, physics, and the like, with additional queries focusing on green nanotechnology.

“Syntegrate” features speakers shedding light on the current situation of Philippine ecology, bringing forth an illuminating perspective on harnessing green nanotechnology’s potential in aiding some of the country’s environmental deficiencies.

Side events after the symposium include on-the-spot poster making, essay writing and impromptu speech contests. Other immersive activities are arranged for non-competing participants to ensure they could apply lessons from the symposium and have space and opportunity for additional dialogue.

“Youth Greenovation” is divided into two categories on “Green Life” and “Green Technology.” It is an inter-high school science fair open to junior and senior high school students.

Don’t miss your chance to take part in the National Science and Youth Congress (NSYC) 2019 and win awesome prizes, happening on February 9 (Saturday), from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the University of the Philippines Los Baños.
