NOT LYING- Invader Zim is Going to Have a TV Movie!

We’re not lying: cult classic Invader Zim is going to be adapted into a TV movie!

It was recently announced that Nickelodeon has greenlit the project, following news that Hey! Arnold and Rocko’s Modern Life will be getting the TV movie treatment, too.

According to Chris Viscardi, SVP of Animation Content Development and Production at Nickelodeon:

What makes this announcement extra thrilling is the adventure that Jhonen has created for Zim, and I can promise you that it is as wonderfully absurd and strangely heartfelt as any fan of the original series could hope for, and kids seeing it for the first time will love it, too.

Invader Zim follows the misadventures of the titular alien, who arrives on Earth to conquer the planet. To do this, he disguises himself as a human boy, together with his robot companion GIR, to study the human race. Zim is constantly foiled by his neighbor Dib, who suspects that Zim isn’t human.

The show debuted in 2001, but barely finished its second season because of poor ratings. In 2006, the network aired the last seven episodes of season two, spurring DVD sales, merchandise, a a comic book series, a convention, and even a streaming deal on Hulu.

During its run, it won an Emmy Award, an Annie Award (with six more nominations), and a World Animation Celebration Award. It was also nominated for a Golden Reel Award.

There’s no news when Invader Zim‘s TV movie will come out or what it will be about, but a short teaser said that Zim will be invading “soon. Ish.” Most likely, the movie will revolve around his continuous attempts to enslave planet Earth.

Original cast members Richard Horvitz (Zim), Rikki Simons (GIR), Andy Berman (Dib), and Melissa Fahn (Gaz) will return for the movie. It was also confirmed that creator Jhonen Vasquez will be joining the production.
