No, You Will NOT be Charged 10 Pesos per iMessage

Yesterday, a friend of mine sent me a message expressing his anger towards a telco because of the following text message that he had received:

Globe iMessage charges

My friend explained to me that this meant that every iMessage sent from here on out outside of WiFi usage would be charged 10 pesos, even if you use 3G.

That didn’t sound right to me. And clearly, it didn’t sound right to a lot of people who also misinterpreted the text message and vented their frustrations out on social media.

Well, it turns out that there was actually a follow-up text message from the telco explaining the situation better. In case you only received the message above, here is the follow-up text message:

Globe iMessage charges 2

In other words, no, you will not be charge 10 pesos per iMessage. You will merely be charged 10 pesos if you choose to activate iMessage or FaceTime on your phone. You may turn the services off and on in your phone settings and every time you activate it, a message will be sent to Apple’s UK-based server. If you don’t tinker with the settings of your iMessage or FaceTime at all, though, then you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Again: you won’t have to pay 10 pesos per iMessage as a lot of people believe. I hope that clears things up! You may now calm your hearts and breathe. 🙂
