Fans were shocked and disappointed when Hardwell announced on his Facebook page that he wouldn’t be able to make it to this year’s much-awaited Road to Ultra: Philippines festival due to flight delays caused by an incoming typhoon in the area. The highly-acclaimed DJ was supposed to headline Road to Ultra’s second Philippine run along with fellow big names Fedde le Grand, MOTi, Alesso and Tiësto, along with local DJs Tom Taus and Jess Milner.

In case you missed it, here’s what happened at last year’s Road to Ultra: Philippines, headlined by Skrillex.

The abrupt announcement, made on the night of the event itself and was also reposted on RTU:Ph’s official Facebook page, had everyone wondering what the international music festival franchise had in store for everyone to make up for Hardwell’s absence.

It turns out that RTU:Ph did have the mishap under control by hooking everyone up at the very last minute with none other than Jauz, fresh off his Ultra Singapore gig, to provide us with the perfect primer for the night’s remaining headliners. The LA native’s impressive set definitely put everyone’s qualms to rest, and had the crowd pumped and ready when Alesso finally took the stage.

Alesso’s two-hour set was nonetheless stellar. His unfailing capacity for capturing the crowd’s energy was still apparent despite it being his fourth time performing in Manila. His set was a heady mix of classic favorites, bits, and pieces from his album ‘Forever,’ and if my hazy memory serves me right, a spankin’ new mix or two.

Speaking of stellar sets, Tiësto’s was definitely one for the books! In what can only be described as a mess of fist pumps, stomps and non-stop dancing, the true master of his craft definitely took it home this year.

Last-minute cancellations aside, this year’s Road to Ultra: Philippines festival was another memorable night of world-class performances and great music. We can’t wait for the aftermovie!
