NLASC 2017: The Youth on City, Sea, and Cultural Identity

POSTER NLASC A

On September 22 and 23 of this year, the University of the Philippines Circle of Landscape Architecture Students (UPCLAS) will be holding the first National Landscape Architecture Student Congress (NLASC) at the Palacio del Gobernador, Intramuros, Manila. This will be an annual conference for students of landscape architecture, architecture, and urban planning to know more about landscape architecture through well-known professionals, participate in activities that will hone their skills, discuss relevant issues of the country and their profession’s role in tackling these issues, and celebrate and help in shaping the landscape architecture profession.

NLASC is part of the Landscape Architecture Festival (LAF), organized by the Philippine Association of Landscape Architects (PALA), which focuses on the youth because of their importance in the Landscape Architecture industry. Aside from UPCLAS, Landscape Architecture student organizations from all over the country will also take part in this momentous event.

These are the Circle of Landscape Architecture Students of Bulacan State University, the Philippine Association of Landscape Architects Student Auxiliary of the University of San Agustin in Iloilo, and the Circle of Landscape Architecture Students of the University of San Carlos in Cebu.

For this year, the theme “(C.I.)ty. (Sea)ty. (See)ty” aims to create a discussion on cultural identity and coastal resilience among students and professionals of the field, to develop the skills of the students through workshops, and to create a community that celebrates landscape architecture as a profession, while highlighting the cultural, physical, and social schema that define the Philippine city and understanding how landscape architects, together with allied professionals, aid in making the Philippine cities more inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.

About UPCLAS: The University of the Philippines Circle of Landscape Architecture Students (UPCLAS) is the first bonafide organization of Landscape Architecture students.
