NEWS: Chikungunya Outbreak Declared in Indang Cavite

The Chikungunya disease caused by mosquito bites is apparently rampant in one of the municipalities in Cavite, Manila Bulletin reports.

As explained in the article, the declaration was made by Dr. George R. Repique, a Cavite provincial health officer, with the recommendation of the provincial epidemiologist, Dr. Nelson C. Soriano. The declaration happened on Friday afternoon.

The conclusion came after gathering prevalent chikungunya cases in Indang town, Cavite.

According to the report gathered by the Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit (PESU), there are: (Source: Manila Bulletin)

  • 423 chikungunya-related cases in Cavite province
  • 419 cases in Indang
  • and 2 cases each in General Trias City and Dasmarinas district

Symptoms of Chikungunya

Although the most common signs of Chikungunya (Zika and Dengue too) is fever and joint pain, other symptoms may include headache, muscle pain, joint swelling, or rash.

Unfortunately, there is no vaccine to prevent this but could be prevented by maintaining a cleaner environment, getting plenty of rest, keeping yourself hydrated, considering mosquito repellant lotions, bracelets, just to name a few.
