New Bar Alert: BUNK, Rooftop Bar

Countless nights of encountering places, When In Manila, usually overcrowded bars, noisy ambiances, difficult seating or none at all, it has often been a jungle out there. Good thing there are nice chill ambiances for those looking for a good talk, a first date, catch up with friends etc.

BUNK is the brainchild of Francine Delos Reyes, a young professional who wants to bring the Art scene in Mandaluyong. She recalls that there isn’t much art places in the area. She wants to bring an audience to independent artists such as musicians and painters.

Located at the Rooftop of Jovan Bldg along Shaw Blvd, Bunk was such an obscure place to find that it felt like a nice little secret. Jovan Bldg. is in front of PCSO, it is a condominium and office building with no sign whatsoever. The guards know immediately though that you are going up the Rooftop for Bunk and immediately tell you that “Yes, this is it!”

We came just in time for the sunset (I highly recommend it!). Manila’s vanilla skies would turn into a multitude of colors that made the mood extra relaxed that all of my companions would constantly have a brief moment of silence to sink in the view and the windy skies.

Of course enjoying the nice weather with a view of the Metro with beer. They have beer promos and cheap as P45.00 which is quite a steal nowadays. They have a variety of local beers: Light, pale, Brew Kettle (my favorite at the moment) etc.

During nights when they have events where they would have live music or painters who would do live painting, an array of people would come. Artsy ones, after work-employees, teenagers–all to witness the live art or to simply enjoy the weather and cold beer. With two permanent house production such as Words Anonymous (Poetry) and Red Button Production (Music), BUNK shall venture into the right path.

After a trip to Berlin, Germany, founder Francine loved the idea that the people of Berlin are free. In terms of art and in terms of life. She wanted a place in Manila to do so.  Inspired by the streets of Berlin where people can drink, dine, and appreciate musicand art while enjoying the sunset view of Manila.
