Netflix Cancels ‘Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj’

After a two-year run, Netflix has canceled the variety talk show “Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj.”

“Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj,” along with other variety talk shows, deviated from Netflix’s usual format of dropping all episodes of a certain season at once by releasing episodes weekly as it tackles different pressing problems in the US and the world.

The reason behind its cancelation is unclear but it’s been previously revealed that Netflix has struggled with these kinds of shows.

“The timeliness of the genre is a challenge for us as an on-demand service,” Netflix’s reality TV boss, Brandon Riegg, said to the New York Times in an article published last year.

Minhaj dropped the regretful news to fans and followers on Twitter on Tuesday, August 18, though he did not provide further explanations. “What a run. @patriotact has come to an end. I got to work with the best writers, producers, researchers, and animators in the game. My 2 babies were born and grew up with the show. TY to @Netflix and everyone who watched.”

“Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj” was widely acclaimed by critics and consistently sparked online discourse with every new episode released throughout its six seasons. It truly is unfortunate to see this show end and we can only look forward to what will come next for its host.
