Different forms of media shape the ways individuals and communities analyze information and think critically. However, technological advancements have made it easier for misinformation and disinformation to spread across news, social media, and traditional outlets. This has created significant challenges for promoting media literacy and ensuring the authenticity of information. Fact-checking and critical evaluation are increasingly necessary skills in today’s media landscape. To address these issues, the organization is hosting MULAT 2026: The TOMCAT – UST Community Development Media Summit, an annual event designed to equip participants with strategies to combat misinformation and disinformation.
For this year’s installment of MULAT, the activities will focus on the role of media in government public transparency and social trust among its constituents. With recent developments in the news, it is vital to know the truth and factual information that Filipino people deserve to know. Not only is this vital for the development of constituents, but also for the betterment of future generations.
The overall objective of MULAT 2026 is to establish a comprehensive, multi-phased educational pipeline that transforms residents from partner communities into proactive stakeholders in government transparency. Through online orientations, interactive infographic booths, press conferences, and a series of talks, the project aims to demystify the complexities of public fund management and the media’s role.
By bridging the gap between academic discourse and grassroots action, the summit seeks to restore social trust and equip citizens with media literacy to combat corruption. The project ensures a sustainable transition through its phases—from awareness to civic engagement—fostering a future where the truth is accessible and public officials are held accountable.
