For 42 years, the UPLB Statistical Society (STATS), a duly recognized academic organization in the University of the Philippines Los Baños, has committed itself to the pursuit of academic and professional excellence. The organization continues to work towards its goal of advancing and promoting the proper application of statistics in all fields of learning endeavors. Though an academic organization, UPLB STATS does not only set its limits in developing academic excellence among its members but also in promoting awareness among the youth nationwide. In recognition of its outstanding efforts and exemplary dedication to the successful conduct of various statistical advocacy activities for the youth, UPLB STATS was awarded as the Best Youth Advocate for Statistics during the 27th and 28th National Statistics Months.
ESTADISTIKA is an annual, invitational statistics quiz, poster-making, essay-writing, and photo contest established by the UPLB STATS. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization opted to re-invent the said activity and make an ESTADISTIKA Special Edition—with the same aim of introducing the proper application of statistics in various disciplines and promoting intellectual growth in statistics nationwide.
In its 17th year, high school and college students from schools nationwide are invited to participate in MULAT 2023: A Nationwide ESTADISTIKA Special Edition for Essay Writing, Video-Making Contests, and Photo Contests. The said contests will officially start on the 27th of March 2023, with the theme, “EkonomiSTAT: Supplying the Demand for Reliable Statistics in Addressing Economic Challenges.”
The essay writing contest is divided into two divisions—high school and college. For the high school division, the contest is open to all enrolled Grades 9-12 nationwide, and for the college division, the contest is open to all enrolled undergraduate students nationwide. Meanwhile, the video-making and photo contests are open to all enrolled senior high school and undergraduate college students nationwide. These contests have NO REGISTRATION FEE.
In the essay writing contest, a maximum of 50 official participants per division will be accepted. The participants have a chance to win Php 2,500.00 for first place, Php 1,500.00 for second place, and Php 1,000.00 for third place. On the other hand, for the video-making contest, a maximum of 20 official teams, consisting of at most 5 members from the same school, will be accepted. The participating teams in the video making contest have the opportunity to win as much as Php 3,500.00 for the grand prize, Php 2,500.00 for the first runner up, Php 1,500.00 for the second runner up, and Php 1,000.00 for the group whose video has the most engagement (likes and reactions) on ESTADISTIKA’s Facebook page. In the photo contest, a maximum of 40 official participants will be accepted. The participants can bag Php 2,000.00 for first place, Php 1,000.00 for second place, and Php 500.00 for third place, and Php 500.00 for the participant whose photo has the most engagement (likes and reactions) on ESTADISTIKA’s Facebook page.
MULAT 2023 officially launches today, February 27, 2023 and the registration period for the contests starts tomorrow, February 28 at 8AM. Registration links are provided down below, which will be open until March 24, 9PM ONLY.
