In the spirit of undying tradition, the Mu Sigma Phi Fraternity and Sorority will be celebrating its 83rd year on August 22-26, 2016 with Mu Week 2016 Ablaze: Intensifying the Passion, Continuing the Legacy,” a week-long festivity that will uphold its well-established pillars of true Brotherhood and Sisterhood, self-denying Service, committed Scholarship, and responsible Leadership.

To start things off, an Opening Ceremony of the Grand Exhibit will be held at the lobby of the UP College of Medicine building with prominent alumni as guest speakers who have become leaders in their own field. On the following day, the celebration continues with the annual Fiesta at the Hut, a feast complete with lechon to welcome the freshmen to their new medical community.

The 24th is set to be packed with various activities that embody the pillars of the Mu Sigma Phi. First, in the spirit of Brotherhood, the Fraternity will be holding Siyempre Mu, a food eating contest where freshmen race to finish platefuls of beef tapa and pizza to celebrate sportsmanship, camaraderie, and good food. Simultaneously, the Sorority returns with its annual Service program, Alay sa MUsmos, for the pre-school children of Creche Preparatory School. This year the children are given a chance to learn up close unique animals as the sisters of the Mu Sigma Phi bring the zoo to them. And true to the pillar of Scholarship, a Dermatology Kodachrome will be held for the freshmen at the UP PGH Sentro Oftalmologico to prepare them to tackle their first major examination.

On the 25th, the Mu Sigma Phi will be launching its first photography and photo editing workshop entitled Pub Med 2016. It is aimed at providing an avenue for developing skills useful in professional photography, photoshop, and mobile photography through an interactive workshop that is open to all. Also to be held on this day is ImMUnity, an awareness campaign that has lasted for 7 years now. It seeks to promote the importance of disease prevention through immunization, particularly among health practitioners.

Finally, a Thanksgiving Mass will be offered at noon as an expression of gratitude for 83 years of Brotherhood and Sisterhood, Service, Scholarship, and Leadership. And to end the week’s festivities with a bang is the most awaited Mu Rock, the first and only live rockeoke party in the College of Medicine. Join the Mu Sigma Phi in this glorious celebration! Because who rocks? MU ROCKS!
