Mr. Miyagi Ramen: the only ‘men you need in your life

With the country shifting into a ‘new normal’ and dining services primarily operating on a take-out or delivery basis, ramen options are a dime a dozen now. Whether you like your ramen ready-to-eat or in a DIY package, you have your pick of the litter.

But whatever you do, make sure you don’t sleep on Mr. Miyagi Ramen — because having one of their bowls on your couch can transport you to Japan in an instant.

There are three reasons I genuinely believe make it imperative for you to try at least one of their bowls. The first is quality.

The team behind Mr. Miyagi Ramen takes to heart the entire process of making authentic and quality ramen. They employ a 12-hour process to ensure a rich broth and flavorful chashu that is honestly comparable to the ramen staples of Manila.

Of course, everything is handled with the utmost attention to hygiene and sanitation to guarantee food safety. As a Virgo, I was personally impressed and unimaginably pleased with how well packaged everything was.

The second reason that makes Mr. Miyagi Ramen a must-try is the freedom of customization. Since their orders come as a DIY Ramen Kit you have complete control over every single component.

In the mood for a richer and heartier broth? Add less water to the concentrate. Prefer ramen noodles that have more of a bite in them? Adjust the cooking time to achieve the optimal al dente consistency. And since it even comes with separate tare packs, you get to dictate the balance of your own bowl.

The third reason is how crazy sulit an order from Mr. Miyagi Ramen is. A single ramen kit makes at least three generous portions. I tested it out myself and got three overflowing bowls – if you’re in the mood to share with your family, you could probably stretch it out to four or five bowls.

The story behind Mr. Miyagi Ramen isn’t just that of a business trying to make money. It’s of three friends struggling to keep a dream alive amidst a pandemic.

After nearly a year of preparations, the team was prepared to open up shop last March but as reality set in they were forced to pull out of their space. So the 3-man team had to rethink their plans and decided to push through with offering ramen kits – all so they could continue delivering an authentic Japanese Ramen experience.

Mr. Miyagi Ramen offers 5 variations of their ramen (Shoyu, Shio, Tantanmen, Miso, and Spicy Miso) at Php 450 each. You may view their full menu and make orders through their Instagram (@mr.miyagiramen). They deliver throughout Metro Manila via Grab or Lalamove.
