Fans of The Lord of the Rings, we have great news for you: more films are coming as New Line Cinema and Warner Bros Pictures partnered with Middle-Earth Enterprises. Middle-Earth Enterprises owns the rights to motion pictures, games, merchandising, stage, and more of J.R.R. Tolkien’s works, including The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

The Lord of the Rings is a series of high-fantasy novels about the Dark Lord Sauron, who created the One Ring to conquer Middle Earth. It follows a group of four hobbits, along with their friends, as they attempt to destroy the ring.

The books, titled The Fellowship of the Ring, The Two Towers, and The Return of the King, were published from 1954 to 1955 and are considered some of the best fantasy novels of all time.

Its prequel, The Hobbit, is also popular and is considered a classic in children’s literature.

The Lord of the Rings was adapted into a film trilogy from 2001 to 2003 by Peter JacksonHis trilogy is considered one of the most influential movies ever made, garnering both critical and box-office acclaim. Together, the three films won 17 Academy Awards out of 30 nominations. The Return of the King won all 11 nominations, including Best Picture.

It is also regarded as one of the highest-grossing film series in history, taking home $2.991 billion in worldwide receipts.

The Hobbit was also adapted into a successful trilogy from 2012 to 2014: An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug, and The Battle of the Five Armies.

The love for the title endures, as Amazon Prime recently released The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, a prequel series set thousands of years before the original trilogy.

According to showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, the show “unites all the major stories of Middle-Earth’s second age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men.”

They added, “Until now, audiences have only seen onscreen the story of the One Ring — but before there was one, there were many … and we’re excited to share the epic story of them all.”

An anime film titled The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is currently in the works. Set 183 years prior to the events of The Lord of the Rings trilogy, the prequel will follow the story of the legendary ninth King of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand, and the untold history behind Helm’s Deep.
