Apparently, the MMDA is studying a new road scheme proposed by the Bayanihan sa Daan movement, which aims to turn people towards using public transportation, and is said to help decrease pollution and traffic especially on EDSA!

How, exactly?

The plan proposes to divide EDSA into 5 lanes, particularly the following:

Lane 1  – Walk lane (lane closest to existing sidewalks)
Lane 2 – Bike lane
Lane 3 – City buses
Lane 4 – Provincial buses and private vehicles
Lane 5 – Private vehicles

This means only 2 lanes are allotted for private cars. The proposal plans on decreasing traffic by helping decrease cars that are on the road, and make the roads more for people than for vehicles. The rightmost lane closest to the existing sidewalks will also be given to pedestrians.

If approved, the Bayanihan sa Daan program will start this Sunday, June 28.

What do you think of this? Would you still drive along EDSA if this was implemented?
