Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) is celebrating a proud moment after its delegates earned two Gold medals and one Silver at the 8th Global Monozukuri Skill Competition (GMSC) held last October 26, 2025, in Okazaki, Japan.

The international event brought together teams from Mitsubishi Motors facilities in Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, Vietnam, and the Philippines, all competing in skill-based challenges anchored in the Japanese philosophy of Monozukuri—the art of craftsmanship.

Representing the Philippines were Sherwin Recaido, who won Gold in Metal Repair & Hand Skill Finishing; Nelson Ojoy, who secured Gold in Forklift Pallet Handling Operation; and Mark Bagnes, who took home Silver in CO2 Arc Welding. Their wins highlight the technical strength and discipline of MMPC’s workforce and showcase Filipino skill on a global stage.

MMPC President and CEO Ritsu Imaeda congratulated the team, describing the achievement as a proud moment not only for the company but also for the country’s manufacturing talent.

He emphasized that the results reflect MMPC’s commitment to precision, quality, and the Monozukuri philosophy. Production Strategy Manager Sergio Castro Jr. echoed the sentiment, noting that the recognition is shared by the colleagues and mentors in the Philippines who continuously work to build quality vehicles every day.

The Philippine contingent had been preparing for months leading up to the competition.

Training took place at MMPC’s Santa Rosa, Laguna plant in the Manufacturing Monozukuri Training Section, where exercises focused on advanced techniques, efficiency, and high-pressure simulations similar to those in the actual contest. The team competed in seven categories overall, including welding, assembly, tooling, stamping, logistics, painting, and maintenance.

Now in its eighth year, the Global Monozukuri Skill Competition carries the theme “Drive your Skill for Master.” The competition also serves as a platform for Mitsubishi Motors’ manufacturing hubs worldwide to strengthen technical capabilities and encourage skill development across teams. With MMPC’s strong performance this year, the Philippines continues to show its growing presence in the global automotive manufacturing landscape.
