Co-founder of global tech company Microsoft Bill Gates and his wife of 27 years, Melinda Gates, have shared that they will be separating. The ex-couple made the announcement on their social media accounts, both posting the same statement.

The post reads:
After a great deal of thought and a lot of work on our relationship, we have made the decision to end our marriage. Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives. We continue to share a belief in that mission and will continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives. We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.

Melinda Gates joined Microsoft as a product manager in 1987. The pair tied the knot seven years after, in 1994. Melinda and Bill Gates are active philanthropists. They established the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2000, and according to reports have “given billions to global health, poverty, and education” and donated more than $250 million to COVID-19 efforts over the past year.
