Canadian singer Michael Bublรฉ fulfilled his grandfather’s final wish by giving his beloved Filipino caretaker her own house at the home renovation TV show Celebrity IOU.
The 44-year-old musician was incredibly close to his grandfather Don Demetrio Santaga, known affectionately as Grandpa Mitch.
When his grandfather died in December 2018, Bublรฉ joined Celebrity IOU. Then, he gave the Vancouver house that his grandfather built in the 1970s to his caretaker of eight years, Minette.
Minette was in the Philippines visiting family when Michael decided to work with designers Jonathan and Drew Scott to improve the home before giving it to her.
โMy grandfather didn’t really want anyone here, but Minette was a perfect match,” Bublรฉ said.
โMy grandfather went from a little bit resentful to absolutely becoming one of her best friends, and she became family almost instantly,” he added. โI miss him every day. We had this bond over music and sports. I just loved talking to him. I really looked up to him my whole life.โ
Michael remembered about mowing the lawn outside the house as a child, revealing he had chipped the bay window after running the lawnmower over a rock.
Minette had no idea that the house was being overhauled. Bublรฉ simply told her that he was shooting a documentary about himself and his grandfather in order to get her on camera.
When Minette came back, Bublรฉ invited her to the house and said, โWelcome home!โ
โMy grandfather, his greatest wish was not just that this house was kept in the family but that this would be your home because he loved you so much,โ he told Minette.
Upon hearing this, Minette cried. โAnd so there is no documentary. This is all for you,โ Bublรฉ concluded.
That is so cool! What do you think?
