One of Diana’s best qualities is her passion in what she does. She gives her best in making sure that she provides excellent service to her customers. And by customers, I mean everyone that grabs a plate in the hall. She emphasizes the importance of equal treatment of guests to her employees all the time. Everyone gets to eat their share without discrimination.
She also deeply respects people with selective diets. Whether you’re vegetarian, allergic to specific food, or religiously restricted from eating pork, Diana’s got your back. Feasts are often symbols of joy as people get together from faraway places to laugh and eat with their friends.
These vegetable skewers with pesto sauce are sure to be a blockbuster with your vegetarian friends!
“Parang ang sad naman ‘nun (Isn’t it sad) if all the people are eating and you can’t even touch the food,” she says. “The caterer should at least be able to prevent that from happening.”
What’s more, Diana truly takes this task seriously: “We really do our research talaga when it comes to making those [selective diet] dishes. We want to make sure that the food we’re putting out, even if it’s different from our usual menus, is still quality.” She even buys new pans and plates for Halal food as respect for Islamic law. How cool is that?
What’s Cookin’ Kitchenette has grown so much from the small food business it was years ago. Ed Angeles is one of the people who grew along with the business as well. He started working for Diana in 1994 as a dishwasher. For Ed, a permanent job was once only a dream as he hopped from job to job every five months. Now, even after 24 long years, he is still employed by Ms. Diana. The only difference is that he currently lives a comfortable life as a Head Waiter in the company.
Another life that has been touched by this woman is Jackie Bragas. Like Ed, she has worked for Diana for a little over two decades. She was originally only working as a server in the business at the age of sixteen. Little did she know that it would become her second home. As of now, she works as a supervisor for What’s Cookin’ Kitchenette.
Helping people through her catering business is something that Diana aims to do with every service. If there would be any secret to What’s Cookin’ Kitchenette’s success, it would be love–from picking only the freshest ingredients and giving the best quality of food to nurturing her employees and valuing the boundaries of her clients.
