Let me tell you about my new best friend… my new mate – the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.

For the 1st half of this year, I’ve been using the Huawei P20 Pro which I also love so much. But last Oct 16, 2018, Huawei unveiled yet another beast with the Huawei Mate 20 Series and I’m fortunate to be one of the 1st in the Philippines to test it out. I’ve been using it for almost and week now and I’m so blown away with its impressive overall quality and performance.  I love my P20 Pro, but the Mate 20 Pro is like 500x better!

Let me tell you what it can do…. (ALL photos are NOT edited so you can see the actual quality)

  1. It has a superfine curved edge for comfortable holding.

I’m really loving its curved edges and overall design as it looks and feels really sleek and chic. And yeah, it feels more comfortable to hold compared with my previous Mate 10.

2. It has in-screen fingerprint scanner for maximum view

For a total full-screen experience, Huawei placed its fingerprint scanner on the screen itself instead at the bottom (like in the P20 Pro). I like what they did here, because I now experience less strain on my thumbs. The touch response is also super fast!

Before, I had to stretch my thumb all the way down to reach the finger print scanner. To be honest, it felt really uncomfortable.

Now with the in-screen fingerprint scanner of the Mate 20 Pro, I don’t experience any pain/strain anymore

3. It has the fastest AI chipset (Kirin 980) and EMUI 9.0 operating system

Compared to my previous smartphones, I’m super loving my Huawei Mate 20 Pro because of its improved user experience, thanks to its new AI 7nm Kirin 980 chipset and EMUI 9.0 operating system. With these, my new mate has higher intelligence compared to the rest. It brings noticeable improvements in performance in every aspect, from tap response, app launch times to app smoothness, has been optimized to new levels of speed and efficiency, thanks to the myriad enhancements the custom OS brings to the Android platform. The Kirin 980 also allows the cameras to produce outstanding photos with more detail, depth and vibrancy.

4. Longer Battery Life and Lightning Speed Charging

Aside from always having awesome cameras, one of the major reasons why I stick with Huawei is because they know how important it is for us users to have longer, dependable battery. Not just that, their smartphones also consume less power so you can do more simultaneously without worrying about your battery life. With my previous Huawei smartphones like my P20 Pro, I hardly need to plug it into my power bank. Tho I still carry one around as back-up just in case, since I’m always traveling to places and my work requires me to always be connected online.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro has 4200 mAh for longer usage.  Aside from that, it also comes with a 40watt super “lightning” fast charger. Plug it for 30 mins and expect 80% in your battery tank (50% faster that iPhone Xs Max)

5. It’s Water and Dust Resistant (IP 68)

Similar with the P20 Pro, the Mate 20 Pro is also water and dust resistant (IP68), so you don’t need to worry about occasional liquid splashes/spills.

6.  It can be used underwater.

This announcement was kind of a jaw-dropping moment for me while I was at the event in London. This means I don’t need to bring my action cam during trips anymore and I can now take photos and videos on my next snorkelling activity using my smartphone. This is great news for travel junkies like me… we don’t need to carry extra bulky cameras/gears anymore during trips. Saves us luggage space and 1 less gadget to charge.  I can’t wait to purchase the waterproof case. Hope it becomes available soon!

7. It has an Ultrawide Lens

Huawei and Leica replaced the monochrome lens into an ultrawide lens so we consumers can capture better panoramic shots. Personally, I think this was a great move. A game-changer.  This means you can take ultra-wide panoramic shots and even zoom in with its telephoto feature. If you love taking landscape photos, then this will truly level up your shots. I noticed the ultra wide shots didn’t have any awkward distortion too. Check out some sample shots I made….

8. It also has Super Macro Mode

I like its ultra wide lens feature but I must say, I love the Super Macro Mode 10000x more! Been secretly praying to have this feature since I’m obsessed with macro photography. It’s also super easy to use. All I have to do is lean the phone towards my subject and it immediately shifts to Super Macro Mode. Thanks to its powerful AI Kirin 980 chipset, it is now possible to capture up-close detailed photos with the Huawei P20 Pro.

9. It has the biggest camera sensor compared to its competitors

Why choose a camera with a larger sensor? Well, a larger sensor generally provides higher resolution and result in improved low-light performance. This is the reason why professional photographers invest in expensive full-frame cameras – they know that larger sensors produce better photos especially in low light scenarios. The Huawei Mate 20 pro has a 1/1.7 inch type sensor…  125% larger than iPhone Xs Max and the Galaxy Note 9.

Furthermore, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro has the highest Light Sensitivity with ISO 102400 for stunning low light shots.

10 . It helps me watch my diet

Well, I’m not really conscious of what I eat, though it’s good to know that I can simply check on my calorie intake from time to time. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro has a built-in 3D Modeling Calorie Counter. It can identify fruits, snacks and various dishes with its super powerful AI 7nm Kirin 980 chipset. Simply open your camera and let it identify what you’re about it eat (you need an internet connection to use this).

11. It’s a 2019 Youtube Signature Device, making it ideal for vloggers and YouTubers.

If you’re planning to start a vlog to be a YouTuber, then I highly recommend using the Huawei Mate 20 Pro instead of investing in heavy/bulky cameras. The Mate 20 Pro is recognized by YouTube as a Signature Device for 2019 because of its 360 video capability, High frame rate, 4k decoding, High Dynamic Range and more.

As a professional blogger, travel junkie, photography enthusiast and entrepreneur, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro perfectly fits my lifestyle, my ideal mate! It provides me with what I need to sustain my career and passions. It keeps me inspired because it never ceases to wow me with its camera performance.  With this, I don’t need to bring extra heavy gadgets anymore because it’s like having a dslr, an action camera and an underwater camera in one powerful device. The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is definitely THE MUST HAVE android right now, so you better check it out as soon as it becomes available here in the Philippines. As for the price, there is still no official announcement for its SRP here in the Philippines, but my wild guess would be over 45k.
