Mediartrix Spring Awakening: An Adaptation Press Release

Mediartrix, the university-wide multimedia and musical theatre organization of the University of Santo Tomas, presents an adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical “Spring Awakening” as its major production for its 19th year.

A rock musical with music by Duncan Sheik and book and lyrics by Steven Sater, it is based on the German play “Spring Awakening” written by Frank Wedekind in 1891. Set in late-19th-century Germany, the musical tells the story of teenagers discovering the inner and outer tumult of their sexuality while living in a repressive, ultraconservative society.
