Mayor Vico Sotto Announces Cash Assistance for PUV Drivers Affected by COVID-19 Quarantine

Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto has guaranteed the dispensation of financial assistance to public transport drivers affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) community quarantine.

Sotto announced a Php 3,000 cash handout for tricycle drivers, jeepney drivers, and UV drivers. Pasig City will be giving this out to 12,000 tricycle drivers, 5,800 jeepney drivers, and 700 UV drivers, amounting to a total of Php 55.5 million.

“The biggest challenge is that a lot of our constituents cannot work, although they understand why this needs to be done,” Sotto earlier said at the Laging Handa briefing of Malacanang. “But it becomes a problem when people go hungry. That’s why we bought food packs. Next, we’ll have financial assistance for those vendors who can’t sell, as well as for tricycle drivers and jeepney drivers.”

Sotto mentioned that the distribution of the cash assistance would be by schedule, starting Monday, March 30.
