Among all the local shops in Manila that serve Korea’s trendy egg drop sandwiches, Maycee’s stands out for its version of the hearty snack made with a Filipino twist.
Usually, what makes an egg drop sandwich are fluffy scrambled eggs, bacon or ham, cheese, and white sauce placed inside thick buttery brioche bread. At Maycee’s, they kick it up a notch with unique choices of fillings that cater to the Pinoy palate—such as Breakfast Steak (PHP 155), Sausage (PHP 135), Chicken Katsu (PHP 165), and their star dish: the SPAMCIT (PHP 140), made with sweet and spicy-flavored pancit canton and slices of SPAM.
“A lot of the egg drop sandwiches you’ll see are all Korean-inspired. Ours is more on the Filipino side. Our SPAMCIT egg drop, in particular, is one of the most unique flavors we have. It’s something that we, Filipinos love to eat, so why not make it into an egg drop sandwich?” co-owner Macy Joya tells When In Manila.
“I think our humble beginnings and our passion have helped us emerge despite the influx of other egg drop sandwiches. We strive to continue that unique twist and make sure the touch of Filipino taste will be there in every bite.”
What customers also love about Maycee’s Egg Drop Sandwiches is that they’re actually pretty hefty in size! This is because Maycee’s ensures that each one is stuffed all the way to the bottom of the brioche bun. Indulging in just one sandwich—even the simplest one on their menu, the Cheesy Egg (PHP 99)—is enough to satisfy your hunger pangs at any time of the day. And for the price you’re paying, that’s already more sulit than most merienda time food out there. Pictures don’t do justice to just how good they are!
Maycee’s menu also features rice meals, two types of fries, and different drinks such as Iced Coffee (PHP 80), Black Gulaman (PHP 60), and Lemonade (PHP 60).
