When in Manila , you should get used to sharing everything. Sharing a room, a drink and even a meal! My family always does this. We go to restaurants and order ala cartes but we request for extra plates so we can “equally” share everything. We get a little bit of this, a little bit of that and all of sudden we’re full and we got to taste everything each member ordered! Wais ‘no?

In MAXIMO they believe that sharing is the best way to eat that’s why all viands, or what we Filipinos call “ulam”, are served this way.
Yes, why not a little bit of everything!
MAXIMO ‘s ulams are organized with each protein and food group separated from one other. Since the restaurant serves food “to share” each family member had a say in what to order and then we’d just share it. It’s sort of a process, actually. Each member got to order one viand each and my mom had the final call with whatever the server had to list down because you know, she pays. Haha!
I love how MAXIMO ‘s menu is very simple and organized.
In choosing what to order, I had to play my cards right. I usually want 2 dishes and if my younger sisters agree with my second choice, I ask them to order it. So I get two of my favorites! But that almost always never happens because they also have their own choices. Luckily in MAXIMO ALL of our choices fit our dinner budget. (And I got two of what I wanted.)
Sometimes choosing is hard. when you encounter this problem just look at MAXIMO ‘s chalkboard and see their must try dishes, or ask their bestsellers.
These were my orders: Mushroom Chicharon + Cilantro Aioli dip as our appetizer & Lamb Salpicao as our ulam, and they were a hit! My sisters loved it so much my mom decided to order these two again. The wild mushrooms as chicharon was a perfect choice, paired with the dip, this combination is addictive. The same goes to the must-try lamb salpicao. I think the lamb salpicao is the best salpicao I’ve ever had so far.

Of course the family dinner wouldn’t be complete without veggies! This grilled vegetables stew makes the dinner more delightful. It takes like ratatouille and the vegetables are perfectly cooked.

The beef rendang crumbles in your mouth. It’s THAT soft. This Malaysian curry recipe has a unique turmeric taste that makes it the “extra kick” to our line up of ulams that night.
Beef Rendang 260 Php
Carbs on carbs, why not? MAXIMO ‘s pasta dishes are light and tasty. (although they need more seasoning for my tastebuds) I also love the surprise crunch the crispy mushrooms bring to the pasta. For the pasta with tuyo, I must say that was a clever idea. It’s simple , different and Filipino.
Truffle Cream with Crispy Mushrooms 195 Php
Tuyo with Farmer’s Cheese 180 Php
For dessert we had something I didn’t want to share, but I had to. These glorious scoops of creamy Avocado ice cream are the best! I like my ice cream soft so this is a definite winner in my world of desserts.
Avocado Icecream 125 Php
Ulams require rice so we also ordered bagoong and garlic rice. Just imagine all those tastes! The garlicky-soy sauce salpicao, the curry rendang, tomato-flavored stew, salty tuyo, creamy truffle pasta, crispy mushrooms and the fishy saltiness of bagoong rice. Oh what fun! Having a little bit of everything is better than ordering one dish and wishing you also ordered another one. Sharing food in MAXIMO definitely brings sharing ulams at a whole new level.
Feasting on MAXIMO ‘s food
Aside from serving mouthwatering ulams and making it possible to not spend too much at restaurant MAXIMO also makes your dining experience as casual and as comfortable as possible. Our family can attest to this and we definitely enjoyed the laidback vibe of this restaurant. I guess this deserves to be in our go-to Sunday restaurants list and give it a visit every once in awhile because there are so much more ulams to try.
