Those who grew up in the ’90s are familiar with Matilda, the Roald Dahl book-turned-movie about a young, smart, and telekinetic girl who rights the wrongs at home and at school. In 2011, the book was also adapted into a musical, winning seven trophies at the 2012 Olivier Awards and five at the 2013 Tony Awards.
Now, the musical is getting the movie treatment and you can watch the trailer below:
Alisha Weir will be playing the role of Matilda Wormwood. She will be joined by Emma Thompson as Miss Trunchbull, Lashana Lynch as Miss Honey, Stephen Graham as Mr. Wormwood, Andrea Riseborough as Mrs. Wormwood, and Sindhu Vee as Mrs. Phelps.
It is directed by Matthew Warchus, who also helmed the musical in the United Kingdom and on Broadway.
Matilda the Musical film will stream on Netflix on December 2, 2022.
