Manila will host GOPAC’s 5th International Convention on Eradicating Corruption

 

It’s a given that Manila – or Philippines, for this matter – doesn’t want corruption, in any forms. That’s why from January 30 until February 2, 2013 the fifth international convention of GOPAC, Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption, will take place in the metro.

GOPAC is an international organization that’s focus is to eradicate corruption. 

 

 

GOPAC is the only international network of global leaders that primary focus is to fight corruption; it has over 900 members from 90 countries including the Philippines. GOPAC‘s headquarters is located in Canada.

 

President Benigno S. Aquino III, who is also known for his strong determination to fight corruption, said that “the selection of the Philippines host of the biannual conference of GOPAC affirms our collective efforts to establish the principles of transparency and accountability in our society.”

In a press launch held at the Senate yesterday, Senator Edgardo Angara, GOPAC’s Executive Committee Vice Chairman and Chapter President of SEAPAC (Southeast Asian Parliamentarians Against Corruption) said, “The goal of this event is to exchange ideas and learn from our fellow parliamentarians who are all steadfast in their desire to eradicate corruption in government.” GOPAC’s fifth international convention will carry the theme: “Good Leader. Good Laws. Good Citizens.”

“By hosting the 2013 GOPAC conference, we hope to demonstrate our untiring efforts to cleanse our government of corruption–a plague in our house eroding resources that ought to have gone toward improving the welfare of our people,” Angara added.

 

Also present in the press launch is Senate’s Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, Senator Franklin Drilon and Transparency International’s Dean Georgina Encanto, who delivered a presentation of the role of media in helping eradicating corruption.
