Manila Music Festival: The Music Fest We Called Our Own

When In Manila, the dream of basking on dirt, soaking up the scorching sun with other music fest goers and just chilling come late at night listening to great musicians in an open field is now a reality. Volume Unit Entertainment in cooperation with Department of Tourism were the weavers of the dream that made it to reality last May 1, 2012 at the Aseana Avenue, Alphaland Bay City Grounds in Paranaque.

Like any momentous public event, a ribbon cutting ceremony took place that symbolized the beginning of an event every music lover out there could enjoy annually here in the Manila. Present at the ceremony were Paranaque City Mayor Jun Bernabe and DOT ASEC for Tourism Planning and Promotions Mr. Domingo Ramon C. Enrio III.

Now that we got the formalities in the way, let me take you around the field from the scorchy afternoon until the wee hours of the morning. There were graffiti walls for the invited artists and some crafts around the field.

Then the famous, tho its not that long compared to big festivals in other countries, festival portalets.

Allow me to introduce some of the other fest goers who dared and embraced the dirt and heat (minus the names of course). They were dancing to the beats, raising their hands high up in the air for the beautiful live performances, water gunned each other, put up a tent for shelter, laid blankets, and even gone up near the stage to show appreciation for their favorite performers.

The show was hosted by Sarah Meier who by the way was incredible as she hosted the show roughly 11 hours (give or take).

And of course, the main reason why everyone gathered that day – music. At the Main Stage, the Nameless Heroes who by the way won the Indie Band Competition through public voting opened the show. While at the Red Bull Stage, Joey Santos spun the first beats for the afternoon. Here are some pictures of the performers that day for your viewing pleasure.

The Manila Music Festival, which was not only attended by Filipinos but foreigners as well, showcased the talents of the Philippines’ very own musicians. Not only did we proved that we have music running through our veins that day, we also proved that we know how to appreciate as International performers like Alishaheed Muhammad, Afrika Bambaataa and Shinichi Osawa uttered a few times how great and responsive the crowd was. This festival just gave us additional avenue to do just those, appreciate both the local and international performers.

So When In Manila and you just happen to be at the Metro for the next Manila Music Festival, get on your feet and pack your music fest paraphernalia and head for the field.
