Manila Mayor Orders Early Release of Midyear Bonus, Allocates P60 Million for Financial Assistance

In light of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak and the recent declaration of a Metro Manila lockdown, Mayor Isko Moreno has put into motion a couple of provisions to safeguard the workers of Manila City.

He announced on Twitter this Monday that he has “asked the Manila City Council to authorize the early release of the midyear bonus of all regular employees of the city government.”

Para po maibsan ang hirap na tatahakin ng ating mga manggagawa natin sa pamahalaang lungsod dahil sa COVID-19 pandemic,” he explains. [This is done to alleviate the difficulties that our city government workers are facing due to the COVID-19 pandemic.]

In line with this, Moreno also recently signed Ordinance No. 8620 allocating about Php 60 million to be used as financial assistance for all employees and job order workers of the city of Manila.

Both actions are being done in response to scaling down the workforce and creating arrangements to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
