“Maleficent” is getting a sequel and it’s coming out sooner than you think!

Maleficent 2

We enjoyed Maleficent because we finally got a movie dedicated to a classic Disney villain. And if there’s a bad guy (in this case, gal) who should get her own movie, who should it be but the Mistress of All Evil? If you enjoyed the movie, we have great news: a sequel is coming out this year!

The second movie will be called Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and will be released on October 18, 2019.

Angelina Jolie is set to return as the titular character, and her co-stars Elle Fanning, Sam Riley, Imelda Staunton, Juno Temple, and Lesley Manville will be back as well. Harris Dickinson will replace Brenton Thwaites, and the sequel will introduce Michelle Pfeiffer, Ed Skrein and Chiwetel Ejiofor in new roles.

According to Walt Disney Pictures, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil “continues to explore the complex relationship between the horned fairy and the soon to be Queen as they form new alliances and face new adversaries in their struggle to protect the moors and the magical creatures that reside within.”

The first movie came out in 2014 and was a hit in the box office. Reviews have been mixed, with Rotten Tomatoes saying that “Jolie’s magnetic performance outshines Maleficents dazzling special effects; unfortunately, the movie around them fails to justify all that impressive effort.”
