The Majestic Surfing Cup is an annual surfing competition organized by the Local Government Unit of Baras, in partnership with the Provincial Government of Catanduanes and the Catandungan Festival Committee, with the support of the DOT Regional Office 5 and other government agencies and private sectors as sponsors.
The surfing competition which has been continually running for the past 8 years as an integral part of the Catandungan Festival is earmarked to be held as a pre-activity to the Catandungan Festival on October 18 – 20, 2013 at Puraran Beach, Baras, Catanduanes, the home of the Majestic Waves and the Surfing capital of Bicol.
Brief History of Majestic Puraran Surfing Competition:
Yearly, to celebrate the majestic waves of Puraran, Baras, Catanduanes and celebrating the Catandungan Festival, a national surfing competition is being held here at Puraran, and with participating surfers from, La Union, Zambales, Siargao, Sorsogon, Daet and Manila. The waves in Puraran are comparable to that of Cloud 9 in Siargao which is why these local surfers always look forward to this surfing competition. These majestic waves are discovered by Australian surfers in the 1980’s and have been the first in the Philippines to be featured in Surfer Magazine in 1988. Puraran is gaining it’s limelight in the local surf scene.
