Magnitude 7.2 earthquake hits Mindanao

7.2 magnitude earthquake hits Mindanao 4:23 in the morning, leaving a significant amount of damage in different areas.

Series of aftershocks were felt by the residents, with the strongest going at magnitude 4.1. It has been reported by the PHIVOLCS that the quake was caused by movements in the tectonic plates which had a depth of 57 kms.

A tsunami warning signal has also been raised by the said government agency and advised the people living near the coastal areas by the Celebes Sea in Sarangani, Davao, South Cotabato, and Sultan Kudarat to evacuate for preemptive measures. It has been lifted later on when the waves were reported to be at around 10 cm in height.

  • Koronadal City
  • Santa Maria, Jose Abad Santos, Don Marcelino, and Balot Island in Davao Occidental
  • Polomolok and Tupi, South Cotabato
  • Alabel, Malapatan, and Glan in Sarangani
  • Palimbag, Sultan Kudarat

Intensity 4:

  • Davao City
  • Cotabato City
  • Zamboanga City

Intensity 3:

  • Cagayan De Oro City

Intensity 2:

  • Kidapawan City
