The quarantine has encouraged plenty of Filipinos to flex their creativity. Some have turned to plant parenthood, while others picked up exercise routines. Many also turned to the kitchen and experimented with food trends or turned their family recipes into a business. That’s how Cristina Pilapil started Mamita’s Baked Goods. She turned her family’s bonding activity into a baking business featuring some of her mom’s recipes. And we love it.
Mamita’s Baked Goods offers pastries featuring upgraded versions of familiar flavors. They have different variants of cupcakes, crinkles, and oatmeal cookies.
We got to try the Carrot Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting and the Tres Leches with Cream Topping. The Carrot Cupcakes are our favorite because the cake is moist and flavorful, and generously packed with walnuts. The cream cheese frosting is thicker than usual, and there’s so much that you will definitely have enough for every bite. I’m sure you’ve experienced those cupcakes where you’ve eaten all the frosting and you’re left with cake.
The Tres Leches is something new for us. If you haven’t tried it yet, tres leches is a kind of cake featuring three kinds of milk: evaporated and condensed milk, and heavy cream. It sounds like a lot but Mamita’s version is surprisingly light and fluffy, even with the cream topping. Like other tres leches pastries we’ve tried after, theirs had some milk trickling from within. We were surprised that it wasn’t messy to eat.
Apart from these flavors, Mamita’s Baked Goods also offers Vanilla Cupcakes with Buttercream Frosting, Chocolate Cupcakes with Marshmallow Frosting, and Red Velvet Cupcakes with Cream Cheese Frosting.
We also got to try their Oatmeal Cinnamon and Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies. The cinnamon flavor adds a nice touch to the classic oatmeal to make it stand out. The chocolate chips are big and offer an interesting texture that complements the chewy cookie.
If you want to try Mamita’s range of cookies, you can also try the classic Chocolate Chip Cookies and Chocolate Crinkles, and the Red Velvet Crinkles with Cream Cheese Filling.
What we love about Mamita’s Baked Goods is the homemade spirit to it. You can tell that they used good ingredients and that the products were made with love and attention. Cristina says, “Mamitaโs is an ode to my loving mom, so everything we offer are gifts from our homes to yours. We wanted to stay true to sharing the labors of love from our humble kitchen.”
