The 94th Academy Awards is fast approaching and we’re all excited to find out which among the nominated films will be taking home the coveted award for Best Picture of the year.
Interestingly enough, we can actually get an idea on which among them are the to audience favorite based on how many people globally are streaming it in the days leading up to the Oscars. JustWatch, an international streaming guide that gathers data and insights from multiple platforms such as Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime, released a tracker that charts the streaming popularity of each nominated movie this 2022.
Here’s what they found:
Leading the list is American biographical drama “King Richard” which follows the life of Richard Williams, the father and coach of famed tennis players Venus and Serena Williams. Following behind is Apple TV+ title “CODA,” a coming-of-age comedy-drama film about a young girl who is the only hearing member of a deaf family, and who struggles to balance her attempts to help her family’s struggling fishing business and her own life aspirations.
On third place is British coming-of-age drama film “Belfast” that follows a young boy’s childhood in Belfast, Northern Ireland at the beginning of a conflict in 1969.
On fourth place is “The Power Of The Dog,” a Western psychological drama starring Benedict Cumberbatch. Epic science fiction film with a star-studded ensemble cast “Dune” follows closely behind.
Guillermo del Toro’s neo-noir psychological thriller film “Nightmare Alley” lands in sixth place. The story, which stars Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, Willem Dafoe, and more, revolves around a charming and ambitious carnival worker with a mysterious past who takes big risks to boost his career.
Netflix film “Don’t Look Up” which tells of two low-level astronomers who go on a giant media tour to warn mankind of an approaching comet that will destroy planet Earth takes the last place.
JustWatch’s chart illustrates the increase in popularity on JustWatch based on its global users’ interactions with the Best Picture nominees beginning February 1, 2022. Only titles currently available for streaming are shown.
