LOOK: Vegan ‘SPAM’ exists!

If you’re trying to eat a little healthier but would still want to cheat a bit, apparently, there is a vegan version of ‘SPAM’ that you can binge on.

A new plant-based ‘SPAM’ product was released in an eatery in Hong Kong, according to Plant Based News. The product is claimed to be a first of its kind.

It might soon become available in other markets.

Omnifoods, the maker of the vegan SPAM called Omnipork, announced through Instagram about this vegan ‘SPAM’ product. The brand will also release a plant-based product that can be used as a substitute for pork shoulder.

The company claimed that Omnipork is cholesterol-free and doesn’t contain carcinogenic nitrates. Moreover, it is also allegedly 49% lower in fat and 62% lower in sodium compared to regular SPAM.

“Are you craving that hearty tonkatsu, but scared of all the chronic diseases cholesterol could cause,” they wrote in another Instagram post. “OmniPork is a 100% plant-based, zero-cholesterol alternative to your favorite protein.”

Apparently, the current COVID-19 pandemic triggered the creation and release of this vegan ‘SPAM.’

Will you try it if it becomes available in the Philippines?
