Last night’s FIBA World Cup Asian Qualifiers game between Gilas Pilipinas and Australia Boomers broke into a brawl that resulted to the ejection from the game of 13 players. The game between the two teams got physical with 4:01 remaining in the third quarter after Roger Pogoy shoved Australian Chris Goulding with Australia leading the boards at 79-48.
And the #FIBAWC Best Teammate award goes to…..benign 5-foot-10 185-pound point-guard Jayson Castropic.twitter.com/hRkgPYEUGr

Australian Daniel Kickert threw an elbow to Pogoy’s head, which seemed to have started the fight.
Twitter discussions were just as heated as the brawl on the court. The people on the said social media platform were divided. Some said that what happened was unprofessional and lacked class while others came in support with the players.

Players were placed in a situation where they need to choose one thing, if it’s professionalism or brotherhood. We can’t blame them. #FIBAWC

Part of being a professional sportsman is developing the ability to restrain oneself in situations that may lead to violence.
Let the referees take care of rowdy and rough players. Kaya nga may technical foul eh.
The standard is Junemar Fajardo #FIBAWC

Unbelievable behavior from the PH team. Athletes need to remember it is a PRIVILEGE and an HONOR to carry our flag and represent our country. To uphold our values as a people. Tonight, our team did anything but. Shameful. This is not a time to defend them. #FIBAWC

Those who break the rules are scum, but those who abandon their friends, brothers are worse than scum. #FIBAWC

Fuck Filipinos shaming Gilas Players. They’re playing for our country. You’ll never understand the emotions there inside the court. Basketball is their life, and their teammates is their family. #FIBAWC

Stop shaming the Gilas players. The Aussies are dirty players and they instigated this. It’s just normal for us to fight back, in a way they pushed us to do so. They removed the court decals yesterday and now this. It’s time to throw away that lame Pinoy hospitality! #FIBAWC

Unfortunate series of events that took place tonight. Heat of the battle and emotions won out, but in the end we strive to show the best of who WE are.
