President Donald J. Trump was impeached on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila), which is only the third time in the United State of America’s history that the House of Representatives voted to impeach a sitting president, according to NBC News.
After a daylong debate, the historic vote was made. The impeachment was made on the basis of the incumbent US president’s abuse of power by pressuring Ukraine to damage a political opponent.
The 230-197 vote to impeach Trump for abuse of power was almost entirely along party lines. Immediately after this, a second vote on whether Trump obstructed Congress will be done.
As of the moment, the House has passed the second article of impeachment on obstruction of Congress. This is still ongoing.
The Senate trial on whether to remove the US president is expected to begin in early January.
