LOOK: This Student Designed a Backpack That Looks Like a Bahay Kubo and it’s For Sale!

In case you’re looking for something to upgrade your style, we have just the item for you: this bahay kubo-inspired backpack, designed by an Industrial Design student.

Ronan Villanueva, who’s studying at the University of the Philippines, designed the bag as a plate for one of his major subjects. The theme was Philippine artifacts, and he chose to get inspiration from the bahay kubo using natural bamboo and faux leather. Now, he’s selling the bag to raise funds for his next plate.

According to Villanueva, “Why a backpack? Because a bahay kubo is originally transferred from point A to point B by carrying it on their shoulders. It shows the essence of bayanihan. So it looks and feels like a bahay kubo and you carry it on your shoulder.”

The backpack also captures the essence of the bahay kubo. Like the hut’s stilts, the bag comes with a stand so it doesn’t touch the floor and get dirty. There’s also a front pocket that looks like a window.

Villanueva has also done other designs, like a clutch and a messenger bag featuring local textiles, and products like a Bluetooth speaker, a lamp, and a phone stand. You can also customize your bag design!

To order, you can just send him a message on Twitter at @RonanV03. Due to the modified enhanced community quarantine, it will take around a month to deliver the bag.
